North Carolina Information Guide

North Carolina is located just off the Atlantic Seaboard and is commonly referred to as the "Tar Heel State." While there is little research on how that nickname came about, it is believed to have come from the time of the American Revolution when America soldiers poured tar in to the famous Tar River in order to slow down and prevent British soldiers from crossing. If the British soldiers did make it accross the river to make it to North Carolina, their feet would be covered in black tar.

It wasn't until 1729 when the Province of Carolina split into North and South Carolina. 60 years later, North Carolina became a part of the United States but not until they saw the Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution. The state was also the very last state to secede from the union before the Civil war once President Lincoln asked them to invade their southern neighbor, South Carolina. North Carolina is also known for its breakthroughs in aviation such as the first successful flight in 1903 by Orville and Wilbur Wright.
